Subcon, which takes place from 3 to 5 June at the NEC, Birmingham, is the UK’s national and international showcase for subcontract manufacturing services. Its exhibitors cover all aspects of mechanical and electronic manufacture, from machined parts, electronic assemblies, castings, plastic mouldings and metal fabrications, through to full manufacturing services, design and build, and rapid prototyping. The geographic reach of the exhibition is equally wide-ranging, presenting visitors with the chance to meet leading supplier not just from the UK, but also all parts of Europe, India, China, North America and South East Asia. Visitors range from large OEMs and smaller companies that have their own products to higher tier suppliers – the one thing that they have in common is that they want an outside supplier to make components for them rather than making them in-house.
Using subcontractors for all or part of their production gives companies complete flexibility on volumes and activity levels – and avoids to need to make investments in capital equipment in an uncertain economic climate.
